What's the goal of this site?

I'd heard from folks in the community that it's frustrating when two great shows end up booked on the same night, and that people often wondered whether a shared tool listing everyone's plans might help. So I built werkschedule — a community-driven calendar for burlesque and drag shows in the Santa Cruz and Monterey Bay area.

It's really for two audiences: show producers who want an easy place to check what else is already planned before picking a date, and anyone in the community who just wants to see what's happening and discover shows near them. If you produce or help run shows, you can log in and request to become an Editor — from there you can post the shows you produce or are otherwise involved with.

Just want the shows on your phone? Any logged-in user can set up a calendar subscription — pick a region or two, and shows get synced straight into your phone's calendar app, kept automatically up to date. Find it under "Calendar sync" in the menu once you're logged in.

Show runners — how do I use the site?

1. Log in (Google, or a local username/password both work) and click "Become an Editor" in the top bar. Let me know who you are, and I'll get you promoted.
2. A new "Manage" section appears in the menu — that's where you create and edit your Company and Venues. I've already added a lot of the local ones, so look for yours before adding a duplicate, and feel free to fix anything that's out of date.
3. Click any date on the calendar to add a Show, pick your Company and Venue, and you're set.

There's no per-Company ownership model yet — any Editor can currently edit any Company or Venue, not just the ones they personally run. We'll lock that down if it ever becomes a problem, but for now it works more like Wikipedia: editors are trusted to act in good faith, and every change is logged.

Shows work a bit differently, though: only the person who posted a Show (or an admin) can edit or delete it. If you spot a stale or duplicate Show someone else posted, ping me rather than trying to fix it yourself. Confirming or disputing whether a Show is actually happening, on the other hand, is open to any logged-in user — that's the confirm/dispute buttons on a Show's page, not an edit.

If a show actually gets canceled, use "Cancel" instead of "Delete" — it keeps the listing up (struck through, labeled "Canceled") rather than removing it outright, so anyone who already added it to their own calendar sees why it's off instead of it just disappearing. Delete is for outright mistakes and duplicates, not real cancellations.

Once you're an Editor, you can set a stage name — on the "Become an Editor" request, or later from "Stage name" in the nav — and that's what shows up as a Show's "posted by" credit instead of your real name. Add your Instagram handle there too and that credit becomes a link to your profile.

What's in scope?

Right now the calendar covers burlesque and drag shows in and around the Monterey Bay area. We're not listing things like classes or workshops at the moment, but that could change if there's enough interest.

Same goes for geography — we're focused on the Monterey Bay area for now, but we'd be glad to open things up to the greater Bay Area and beyond if there's enough interest, and if we can find people local to those areas willing to help keep it accurate.
